Have you ever wished you could just leave? Just quit your job, move someplace far away, and start all over?
Well, we’ve been wishing that for a while. And we’ve decided we’re going to actually do it! We only get to live once and it sure seems like life is racing by. There’s no more time to waste on just getting by, on not being happy with where we are or what we’re doing. So we’re going to change it ALL.
Over the next five years, Bill and I plan to totally reboot our lives. We’ve established 3 goals, each contributing to the other, and all designed to put us in a much better place 5 years from now.
Goals
- #1 – PURGE! We’re going to sell everything we own (except for some few irreplaceable sentimental items) – and I mean EVERYTHING! All the junk, the clutter, the bits and pieces that have collected in the corners of our lives are going to go away, hopefully in exchange for dollars to help us with our second goal. But although that second goal is a big part of why we’re getting rid of everything, it’s not the only reason. We want to start over, begin fresh and go forward living simply, cleanly and have only what we need and really want.
- #2 – DEBT FREE! We will use the money we get from purging, our second jobs and any other avenue we can think of to generate income to become debt free. The next 5 years will be frugal ones so that every available dollar can go towards reducing our debts and improving our credit.
- #3 – FIND UTOPIA! During this time, we will also be researching and traveling to determine our ideal place to live. It seems as though we’ve just kind of “ended up” here, we didn’t choose where our lives took us. That ends now! We will make an informed and conscious choice about where to live, so that we can truly enjoy living there. This is one area where some money will have to be spent, but it is all part of the bigger plan and therefore, well worth it.
Why Blog?
So why blog about it? This site will help keep us focused, remind us why we’re doing this, chronicle our trials and tribulations as we work toward these goals, and document our dreams and achievements.
It will keep our friends and family involved and up to date. Our goal is not to leave our families, but to get ourselves into a position where we are happier on a day to day basis, and free to travel much more often, so we can get out and see them!
We hope you’ll enjoy following along on our wild ride!

This is a fantastic idea, thanks for creating a website so that you can share it with the world (and especially your friends)!
Hi, I just stumbled across your website. My partner and I are also completely reinventing our lives and I highly recommend you read the “4 Hour Work Week” by Tim Ferriss. By the way, there’s nothing on my website at the moment but it will be coming soon!
Thanks! I’ll definitely check that book out. I’ll also be watching to see what shows up on your blog (great theme, btw). Thanks for stopping by!
Hello Digigirl,
I just came acroos you blog. My wife and I are in the same boat. We are both in our 40s and living paycheck to paycheck. We do like the area we live in but, I feel like all I do is work sleep work and get deeper in debt. We have been very frugal this past year. We have’ny done anything but work and pay bills. Just wondering how things are going for you guys. Thanks Much, John
Hi John, As you can see, we haven’t been good about updating our blog. We’re still plugging away at it, but it’s a rough road and we haven’t made a lot of progress yet. Life seems to throw stumbling blocks at us every time we get two dimes to rub together! But I know that persistence is the key. We have to get past the hurdle of paying stuff off before we can really start to build up any savings and have a reserve in case of emergencies.
Thanks for stopping by! I know there are lots of people with the same problems we have. Maybe we can all support each other and get ourselves out of this mess!
I knew from the very beginning we had something in us that connected. After our lives taking us in completely different directions it amazes me how that connection still seems to be there in some form. I have had these exact same feelings, ideas and thoughts for some time now. I ran across this just this morning. I went to Denver in December – beautiful and I’d like to revist in summer. Chicago was also very intriguing. I’ve been to Washington and that was on the list as well. Lots more traveling in my future as well. Who knows? Maybe those rocking chairs is not as far fetched as we thought they were as teenagers.
Hey sistah! You should definitely plan to go with us and buy the house next door. I am STILL planning on those rocking chairs!
Getting closer to reality than I ever thought. I liked Colorado when we went in December but it was full of snow! Still have to go visit Washington. Five years huh?
